Velo 1 Modem Strings
For those of you lacking the Philips Velo 1 User's Guide, here is a table showing the various characters
that are allowed in the Velo 1's modem strings.
| Character | Name | Effect On Dial String |
| 0-9 | Dialable digits | Enables phone and pulse dialing |
| E | Country code | Dials the local phone number specified by the program that is dialing (for example, Remote Networking) |
| F | Area (city) code | Dials the local phone number specified by the program that is dialing |
| G | Local number | Dials the local phone number specified by the program that is dialing |
| , | Comma | Inserts a pause (typically two seconds, but the exact length of the pause is modem dependent) |
| $ | Dollar sign | Waits for credit card tone (the wait time is set on the Call Options tab) |
| ABCD | Dialable digits | Tone only (used for special control on some systems) |
| *, # | Dialable digits | Tone only (used for special control on some systems) |
| T | Tone dial | Following digits are to be tone dialed |
| P | Pulse dial | Following digits are to be pulse dialed |
| ! | Hookflash | Allows transfer to another extension (1/2 second on hook, 1/2 second off hook) |
| - | Hyphen | Ignored |
| Space | Ignored | |
| @ | At sign | Waits for "quiet answer" (typically, a modem detects "quiet answer" after 6.5 seconds of silence following a ringing tone - this indicates that a call has gone through) |
| W | Uppercase "w" | Waits for second dial tone (typically, this is inserted after a $ to detect a dial tone after a credit card tone) |
