How to Connect at 115,200bps

Home | New | FAQ | Links | About | Email

Many users of Windows CE 1.0 have complained about slow connections between their desktop PC and their HPC. By performing the following steps you will be able to increase your device's transfer speed from 19,200bps to up to 115,200bps.

CAUTION: Before increasing your device's transfer speed, make sure it can connect properly at 19,200bps. This should help ease any pains that might crop up.

IMPORTANT: On some computers 38,400bps can be faster than 115,200bps. You should experiment to see which works faster for you specific situation. I've personally found that 115,200 is much faster than 38,400 on my system.

1) On your HPC, tap the Start menu, tap Programs, and then double tap Communications.

2) Double tap Remote Networking, and then double tap Make New Connection.

3) Type a name under Type A Name For The Connection, and then tap next.

4) Tap Configure, and then in the Baud Rate list, select the desired rate (typically, 115,200 baud is the fastest rate) and then tap OK.

5) Tap Finish.

6) Tap the Start menu again, tap Settings, and then double-tap Communications.

7) Select the PC Connection tab, then tap Change.

8) Under Connect To Desktop Computer Using, select the connection you created above.

9) Tap OK, and then tap OK again to close the communications control panel.

10) Quit all HPC programs.

11) On your desktop computer, click the Start menu, point to Settings, point to Control Panel, and then double click System.

12) On the Device Manager tab, double click Modem, and then select the port (for example, “Serial cable on COM1”) that is connected to the device.

13) Click Properties, select the Modem tab, and then in Maximum Speed list select the same rate you specified on your HPC.

14) Restart your computer and HPC.

Please email me of ANY troubles you may have downloading software. I will do all that I can to fix any links that become broken. Or you can post a message on the PocketPCcity Philips Velo board where others and myself usually hang out.
